Background Scope
Representing the Canadian forest industry in China, the Canada Wood Group (CWG) in partnership with FII China has been instrumental in the successful first phase of the strategy to introduce wood frame construction to the Chinese market and significantly increase the volume of lumber exported to China. CWG and FII China will be entering the next phase of their China Strategy to build on opportunities that will further increase the value of the wood that is exported to China.
Key to the success of CWG and FII China going forward will be their collective ability to collaborate and work in unison as the China Enterprise, to implement a strategic plan that aligns Canada’s forest industry objectives, targets, and strengths with Chinese government initiatives and economic factors.
Position Purpose
As part of the Technical Services team, the Technical Coordinator provides builder training and instruction, in the classroom or on site, and assists with the delivery of quality support services. Also provides input in the development of technical literature, curricula and other tools and teaching materials.
Key Responsibilities
The Technical Coordinator is an integral part of CW China’s Technical Services team, providing support to the design team, delivering training, and contributing to quality support (QS) activities. The Technical Coordinator should be competent on the job-site, familiar with standard building techniques and be able to demonstrate best practices.
Training and Development and Quality Support
Provides technical expertise and support to all functions of the Technical Services team;
Creates design details in Auto CAD/Sketchup for cooperative projects, technical literature,and training curriculum;
Supports training activities in Vocational schools and on job sites;
Capable of designing and constructing mock up building sections and structures for teaching purposes;
May assist with training logistics and reporting requirements;
Works closely with other members of the Technical Services team to ensure relevancy in content of technical literature and standard;
Stays current on new technologies and developments in construction, (i.e. Glulam, CLT, hybrid etc.),as well as building codes and technical guides to wood construction;
Stays current on new training techniques, job-site best practices;
Develop relationships with builders, designers, education institutes and others in the construction industry;
Promotes CW China’s training programs during presentations, meetings, and events;
Capable of working independently on job-sites as advisor and trainer to builders;
Reinforces company culture and company policies related to the work environment; Participates in the use of the Customer Relationship Management System (CRMS) so as to maintain a current and effective client database for the CW China;
Other duties as required.
Performance Management
Meets targets and evaluation criteria to achieve the established goals and objectives;
Assist in the preparation of annual summary information of progress against performance targets and results achieved, to be incorporated into China Enterprise’s overall corporate reporting.
Education and Experience
Technologist’s diploma, trades designation or equivalent experience gained on the wood-frame construction building sites; architectural design experience a plus;
Experience and presentation skills in delivering training on wood building topics a strong asset;
Significant experience with WFC in commercialization projects. Experience with heavy timber, glulam and innovative wood systems a strong asset.

In-depth knowledge of modern WFC and materials, innovative building solutions, and property development and/or target construction segments;
Actual demonstrable job-site experience working or managing on wood building projects;
Demonstrated knowledge of training principles and adult education strategies;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, displaying diplomacy, leadership and professionalism;

POSITION:
TRAINING SPECIALIST
Based in - Shanghai (Pudong)
Report to - Manager, Education and Training
Position Purpose
As a member of the team, the Training Specialist delivers training support to Canada Wood’s partner schools and industry related companies, as well as Canada Wood China’s own training programs. The Training Specialist will be part of a team that produces technical literature and provides professional guidance to architects, engineers, construction managers and regulatory officials who are not familiar with wood frame construction. The Training Specialist will also play a key role in the Quality Support initiative for projects CW China is supporting.
Key Responsibilities
The Training Specialist is an integral part of the Canada Wood College initiative, acting as a conduit between students and Canada Wood China building relationships, delivering training, ensuring relevancy of course content, and contributing to quality support (QS) activities. The Training Specialist stays current on new technologies and developments in construction as well as on training methods and tools including online and e-tools.
Training and Quality Support
Works with in a team environment to deliver training activities for designers, builders, developers and other construction specialists;
Provides technical expertise and support in developing content and program initiatives in traditional and e-Learning venues;
Assists with planning and ensuring a high standard of content, curriculum and delivery;
Be familiar with building codes and technical guides to wood construction;
Capable of designing and constructing scalable model building sections and structures for teaching purposes;
Provides support for training logistics and reporting requirements;
Works closely with other CW China departments to ensure relevancy in content, priority and promotion of training activities;
Stays current on new technologies and developments in construction, (i.e. Glulam,CLT, hybrid etc.) and incorporates into training content as appropriate;
Stays current on new training techniques, job-site best practices and e-Learning opportunities;
