有时候带有鄙夷的意味，对他人不敬，慎用

You're so pathetic, you actually think he's gonna come back to you.

 你太可怜了，你真以为他会回来找你。

形容对一个人处于悲惨、不幸的处境产生怜悯

You miserable worm!

你这个可怜虫！

How can you live on such a miserable wage?

你怎么靠这少得可怜的工资活下去？

A person's poor situation can always attribute to his own fault.
