General Description
The Trade and Marketing Manager, Shanghai, is a diverse role, responsible for developing and managing a range of business activities and projects in the China region. Based within the Representative Office for the Victorian (Australia) Government in Shanghai, China, the position will manage marketing and trade projects and programs for the office and the Commissioner for Victoria in Greater China. The position requires proven marketing and business development experience, including well-developed research and analytical skills.
Working in a small and supportive team environment, the development of strong relationships internally and with key stakeholders is vital to the role and requires someone who is flexible and solution oriented; confident and diplomatic, with excellent communication skills. The ability to work collaboratively is important, as the position works closely with colleagues based at Head Office in Melbourne, Australia, as well as across the Greater China international offices.
Key Accountabilities
1. Provide marketing/business development and project management services to the Representative Office in Shanghai, which involves identifying companies with the potential to invest in Victoria through market research.
2. Review and evaluate the delivery and impact of marketing programs and projects and provide high quality advice to senior management identifying gaps and areas for improvement in program development /delivery and future initiatives
3. Coordinate social media platforms for China offices.
4. Coordinate Ministerial visits, representation functions and major events in Shanghai as well as outbound and inbound delegations, by coordinating business seminars and programs to promote Victorian products, services, companies, and trade and investment opportunities.
5. Ensure compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of a Representative Office, including health and safety.
6. Provide a range of project management support to all offices within Greater China as required, both remote and in person (may involve some travel in support of an event/project in another location within China).
Key Selection Criteria
1. High level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present, influence outcomes, gain cooperation and undertake complex negotiations; experience in the preparation of high level reports, briefs and recommendations.
2. Proven ability to manage and deliver marketing projects and social media platforms to achieve stated business outcomes.
3. Excellent organisational skills, the ability to plan, show initiative and self-discipline.
4. High level conceptual and analytical skills, ability to apply complex concepts to program development and translating concepts to operational activities with strong issue analysis and resolution skills.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality, adhere to departmental procedures and maintain compliance standards, with prior knowledge of the economy, business culture, regulatory protocols and procedures in both China and Australia.
6. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in Mandarin and English, with accuracy and attention to detail.
Desired Experience/Qualifications
The following experience and skills are highly desirable:
· a relevant tertiary qualification from a recognised institute
· experience in a regional business development role, particularly in China.
· excellent understanding of the Victorian and Australian environments, in particular experience working in Australia or with Australian-based organisations.
Position Specific Requirements
This position has the following specific requirements:
· to work reasonable additional hours, including evenings, weekends and occasional overnight travel, to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the position are adequately performed.
· a requirement to travel within China and on occasion, internationally.
· to display high levels of integrity, governance and accountability.
