What is Transfer Pricing?
Transfer pricing is the process by which subsidiaries and internationalbranches of companies pay money back to the headquarters by exchanging(buying/selling) services between legal entities within their enterprise. For example, if a subsidiary company sells goods to aparent company, the cost of those goods is the transfer price. It can be used as a profit allocation method to attribute a multinational corporation's net profit (or loss) before tax tocountries where it does business. Transfer pricing results in the setting ofprices among divisions within an enterprise. Thus, transfer pricing is the primary tool for corporate tax avoidance around the world.
