如今越来越多的中国游客热衷于到澳洲自驾游，一些网友曾提过，使用自己翻译的国内驾照在澳洲照常驾驶了，提醒有类似想法和做法的网友，万万不可自己翻译驾照，自己的翻译件澳洲道路和交通管理局（Roads and Traffic Authority简称RTA），是不承认的，这样的做法是违法的。
澳洲有着严格的道路交通规则，新手在澳大利亚考驾照，是一个漫长而严格的过程。从考取“学车”牌（L），到“红P”驾照（P1）、“绿P”驾照（P2），直至最后的无限制全驾照（Full License），最快也需要4年的时间，并且各州交通规则略有不同。
所以如果你想来澳洲自驾游，请务必提前办理好合法的驾照证明，最通用及最保险的做法是进行驾照翻译，但需要注意的是，翻译必须是澳洲认可的3级翻译进行的翻译并有签字盖章。国内的翻译是无效的，一些州还认可国内的公证。但每个州规则不一样，请务必遵守各州交通法规。接下来我们看看澳洲官方的说法。
"If your overseas licence is not in English, you must carry an international driving permit or an approved English translation of your licence with you when you drive." 合格的英文翻译可以代替驾照,那什么是approved English translation呢？公证及认证的驾照翻译即是。
北领地最新的驾驶手册中规定，"if you are visiting from overseas, you must hold a current license from your country, and if your license is not in English you must also carry an International Driving Permit or an official English translation of your overseas license." NAATI翻译或者公证及认证的驾照翻译就可以。
"a licence with an English translation if necessary or an international driver's licence." 建议办一份驾照英文翻译。
"If you are visiting Queensland from another country, you can drive if you have a valid overseas licence. " 没具体说明，建议办一份澳洲认证的翻译件。
"you do not have to get a NSW driver licence if you wish to drive in NSW while you are visiting. You can drive on your current overseas licence as long as: You remain a visitor;Your overseas licence remains current;You have not been disqualified from driving in NSW or elsewhere, and You have not had your licence suspended or cancelled or your visiting driver privileges withdrawn." 也没提英文驾照的问题，还是建议办一份澳洲认证的翻译件。
"you may drive using your current overseas driver licence for the length of your stay & your driver licence must be written in English or accompanied by an English translation or international driving permit. " English translation的链接中指名英文翻译需由NAATI出具，或者an official translation from the country of origin，或者appropriate consulate in Australia；所以办理一份澳洲认证翻译件是最基本和最简单的要求。
"if your licence is NOT in English, you must also carry either an official translation of your licence OR a current International Driving Permit." 要求official translation，至少办一份英文翻译。
"Your foreign driver licence that is not in English, accompanied by an official English translation of the licence. An official translation means a translation certified by an Embassy or Consulate or by a National Accreditation Authority For Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)or an Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) accredited translator. " 在首都用中国驾照，需要办理领事认证或NAATI等指定机构的翻译。
对于有国内驾照的新移民来讲，可以在刚到澳洲的前3个月使用驾照翻译件，但过期就必须取得澳洲驾照了。要取得澳洲驾照，首先需要通过交规考试取得Learner License，但不需要签满50小时的Log Book（因为RTA认为你已经在国内攒够了驾驶经验了），然后可以直接参加路考。路考合格以后，根据你驾龄的不同，可以取得不同等级的驾照：国内驾照驾龄低于1年的，拿红P驾照；国内驾照驾龄为1至3年的，可以跳过红P直接拿绿P驾照；国内驾照驾龄超过3年的，可以直接拿Full License。
取得澳洲驾照好处多多，它属于photo ID，在很多地方办事可以作为身份证明，类似国内的身份证。
