The salary will be paid on the Clinical Research Fellow grade £31,614 to £41,979 plus £2,162 London Allowance per annum.

This post will be fixed term contract for three years.

This post is designed for a specialist registrar in renal medicine to undertake a period of out of programme study towards the completion of a higher research degree. The post holder will be employed by King’s College London but will hold an honorary contract with King’s College Hospital and will be expected to take part in the renal registrar on-call rota and clinical duties of one clinic per week.

The post holder will be located in the Department of Renal Sciences headed by Dr Claire Sharpe. The focus of the department is to understand the pathophysiology of the progression of chronic kidney disease and we undertake basic science research studies designed to highlight and evaluate potential therapeutic targets. Our main areas of interest surround the role of cell signalling pathways in the development of renal fibrosis but we also have an interest in the antifibrotic potential of traditional Chinese Medicines.

The successful candidate will be expected to meet with the two principal investigators (Dr Qihe Xu and Dr Claire Sharpe) to discuss potential research projects before registering for a higher degree (PhD or MD). The post holder will be encouraged to apply for personal clinical training fellowships from external sources but this post will be underwritten for a full three years.

The Department of Renal Sciences has a strong track record in training renal physicians in basic science research, many of whom have gone on to receive personal awards from Kidney Research UK and the MRC.
