Provision of health care service by profit-making companies involves various advantages as well as disadvantages. In my opinion, private health care service has significantly more benefits than limitations.

A major disadvantage of private health care service is that the sole purpose of profit-making companies is to increase their earnings. Private companies have the funds to provide more advanced technology than public companies for which they can demand a lot of money, making their services unaffordable for many people. For example, in developing countries, such as Thailand, only private hospitals are able to provide expensive equipment for cancer treatment, which permits them to charge exorbitant amounts to their patients in order to maximise their profits, resulting in many people’s inability to undergo treatment for such serious diseases. 

However, private health care companies provide support to a country’s government in making better quality, high end treatment available to its citizens. These profit-making companies can invest money in progressive technology, which allows availability of specialised treatment. Moreover, these companies are able to undertake more research and development, hire expert and experienced staff, and provide more advanced medication. For instance, in India, HIV/AIDS treatment requires novel medicines that are not available at government hospitals, and are obtainable at private hospitals which allows management of the disease in the Indian population.

In conclusion, I do not agree that the disadvantages of private health care service outweigh its advantages, since private companies enable availability of specialised and advanced treatment that may be unavailable at government hospitals, which leads a country’s economy towards better medical facilities and services for its citizens.
