The Science Department has been very busy this year preparing for DP certification as well as working on MYP course improvement.  Some of the highlights for this year was a Mole Day activity on Oct. 23 where students from grades 6-12 participated in writing about the Mole, building mole sculptures out of a mole of tin foil, and drawing mole day posters.  We even provided the students with a mole of water to drink and some guaca“mole”to snack on.  

我校科学部门本学年一直忙于准备DP认证和中学部课程的发展。本学年举办了一些非常精彩的活动，其中一项是2017年10月23日举办的摩尔日活动，6年级到12年级的学生参加了摩尔雕塑建筑，绘制摩尔日海报。我们也给学生提供了一摩尔水饮用，与此同时我们也提供了牛油果酱(guacamole)和墨西哥玉米片给学生们享用。 

Another ongoing activity this year has been student involvement in the HighFour science competitions.  These are monthly competitions for grades 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12 on topics such as general science, biology, chemistry and physics.  Students involved have to draw upon knowledge they have gained in the science courses and apply it to the competition answers.  Results have been positive with a number of top 4 finishes throughout the year.  Highfour competitions this month are Thursday the 19th for General Science; Monday the 23rd for Chemistry; and Tuesday the 24th for Biology.  

另一项本学年正在进行的活动是HighFour科学竞赛。这是一项月度竞赛，是6-8年级、9-10年级、11-12年级的学生关于一般科学、生物、化学、物理等学科进行的竞赛。参加竞赛的学生必须使用他们在科学课程中学习到的知识来回答问题。全年排名前四的团队名字将会非常光荣地出现在这项竞赛的官方网站上。本月的HighFour竞赛安排如下：4月19号（星期四）一般科学，23号（星期一）化学，24号（星期二）生物。

Students in grades 6-9 are currently working on their Science Showcase projects.  These projects in science this year and will be evaluated as the major summative project this year.  Students will have to put their knowledge of all IB learner traits and ATL skills into practice for this activity.  Students will be given class time to do research, carry out laboratory style activities and do thorough lab write-ups as part of their showcase project.  The Showcase is planned for May 18th.  We look forward to seeing you there!
