2018年11月9日，由加拿大国际教育集团（CIEO）及其旗下加拿大国际学校（CIS）联合主办的「Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow 今朝学子，未来领袖」国际教育论坛在加拿大国际学校（CIS）盛大举行。此次论坛汇集了国内外数百名教育领域专家、学者和老师，以全球视角探讨创新式教育的未来发展，推动中外教育创新文化的交流、促进教育行业的深度合作。

加拿大艾伯塔省艾德蒙顿公立教育局新兴技术顾问Trish Roffey受邀出席了论坛，并以“用设计思维设计未来学习”为主题在开幕式上进行了专题演讲。

我们如何为下一代提供真正的教育体验？

Trish Roffey是来自加拿大艾伯塔省的教师和新兴技术顾问。她和所在地区的96所加拿大学校合作，向所有学生推行创客教育。在CIEO年度教育论坛中，Trish的演讲令我们深思自己所处的世界，作为教育者，我们是否真的帮助学生做好了迎接未来的准备？我们如何为下一代提供真正的教育体验？

在演讲的开始，Trish通过几张加拿大的天气照片吸引了观众的注意，开始说起发生在广州的创新。中国政府将于2020年之前，在众多的发展项目中进一步在五个战略产业中推动创新：互联网技术、生物医药、新材料与高端设备、新能源汽车以及节能和环保。这让我们开始思考，在前所未有的创新机遇当中，整个城市已经准备引领未来，那么作为今天的学习者，我们应该如何应对？

今日学习在我们的学校有许多非常21世纪现代化的关键词：创客空间、设计思维、黑客商店、天才一小时、STEM实验室等等。学校和家长社区争相购买机器人和3D打印机，确保创新是课堂学习的一部分。但在我们为这创客空间和购物清单过度亢奋之前，我们应该先记住，“今日学习”不是你拥有什么，而是你相信什么。

你真的相信教学与技术吗？技术真的会扰乱教育吗？你想象中的教师和学生的角色是怎样的？今天，我们想挑战你思考这些角色，以及技术如何真正对它产生影响。

你是否在科技的环境下教学？今天的技术将如何改变你未来的教学方式和学生的学习方式？

用设计改变教育，用教育设计未来

Design Thinking 发源于设计界，后来被各行各业借鉴，斯坦福大学设计学院把它归纳成一套科学方法论后，迅速风靡全球高校和中小学。它一共分同理心（Empathize）、定义（Define）、头脑风暴（Ideate）、原型制作（Prototype）、测试（Test）5大步骤，引导孩子们以“人的需求”为中心，通过团队合作解决问题，获得创新。

关于教育的观念，有一点所有人意见都一致的：作为教育者，我们的工作就是帮助学生为未来做好准备。但还有一点则想法各异：未来到底是什么样的？学生需要学什么？这个辩论可怕的点在于，我们让学生准备面对的是变化中的未来，但我们使用的课程体系和教学方法却是固定不变的。

我们必须意识到自己所处的是 “前置”的阶段，教育者必须能够提前审视自己的责任，考虑课堂上发生的事的影响力，并保证我们的学生为丰富的人生做好充分准备。

我们希望学生在我们的课堂上感受到学习的成功和兴奋感。那个时刻，你会觉得自己所有的艰辛和努力都是值得的。你也一定会碰到失败的时刻，学生对设计过程感到失望和痛苦的时刻，沉闷的课堂，等等。然而，失败是成为创新型教师过程的一部分。每个错误只是通往成功的另一个迭代。

Trish Roffey强调，只有不断地创新，才能适应这不断变化的世界，通过Design Thinking设计思维的理论，积极探索未来学习的形态和未来教育的方向，去培养内心充盈的个体、积极行动的未来公民。CIEO用18年的实践，不断引领创新，把理想的教育理念实践落地，让孩子自然、自主成长，拥有良好的中华文化基因，用开阔的胸怀和视野探索世界。

我们可以保证，这里的文化允许我们发展基于学生的激情、思想和需求而设的学习项目。我们可以扔掉那些像食谱一样鼓励复制而非创造的“垃圾项目”，允许学生真正展示自己所理解的知识。一张被完成后扔进垃圾桶的试卷完全不能代表我们学习过程的价值，反之，我们以创新作为工具让学生展示所学。

有一件事是肯定的：我们不能成为最后一个还在怀疑我们“是否”应该使用技术的行业。这些创新是可能的，因为我们不只依靠试卷。

November 9, 2018 -- Integrating Chinese and Western cultures and aggregating global wisdom; we aim to highlight the Maple Leaf Spirit of Canada in an atmosphere of elegance.  Learn Today,  Lead Tomorrow – the theme of our international education conference - co-sponsored by CIEO and its Canadian International School (CIS), was held on the sparkling, new CIS campus as grand announcement of CIS's arrival as an international school. Participants from diverse areas of Chinese and foreign educational circles attended the meeting.

Trish Roffey, an emerging technology consultant advisor in Alberta, Canada for the Edmonton Public Education Board, was invited to attend the forum and gave a keynote address at the opening ceremony on the theme "Designing future learning with Design Thinking".

Trish Roffey is a teacher and emerging technology consultant from Alberta, Canada. She works with 96 schools in her district, bringing Maker Education to all students. Her keynote made us question in the world we live now, are we preparing our students? How do we give an authentic educational experience to the generation of tomorrow?

She began by grabbing the audience’s attention by showing pictures of Canadian weather and talking about the innovation that happens right here in Guangzhou. Among its many projects, the Chinese government will step up efforts to promote innovation with a focus on the city’s five strategic industries of IT, biomedicine, new materials and high-end equipment, new energy vehicles, and energy conservation and environmental protection, all by 2020. We start to question, with this kind of unprecedented innovation in the real world where an entire city is ready to “Lead Tomorrow” where does that leave us as we “learn today”?

Learning today in our schools can be filled with many twenty-first-century buzzwords like makerspace, design thinking, hack shop, genius hour, STEM Lab and many more. School and parent communities are clamoring to buy robots and 3D printers to ensure that innovation is part of the classroom. Before we get too excited about the shopping lists and makerspaces. We have to remember that “learning today” isn’t about what you have, is about what you believe.  What do you really believe about teaching and learning with technology? Does technology really disrupt education? What do you envision as the role of the teacher and the student? Today we want to challenge you to think about those roles and how technology truly impacts it. Do you teach like technology exists? How will today’s technology change how you teach and how students learn?

There is one absolute that we can all agree upon in education, that we as educators are in the business of preparing students for their future. There is also one absolute that we all disagree on, what exactly that future is and what students will need to know. The scary part of this entire debate is that our reality is preparing students for a future that is in motion using curriculum and pedagogy frozen in time. We have to realize that we are living in a "Post-Fordist" world where we have to examine our responsibility as educators to consider the implications of what we do in our classrooms to ensure our students are adequately prepared for a productive life. 

Designed thinking originated in the design world, and was later used for reference by all walks of life, Stanford University School of Design summed it up into a set of scientific methodology,  which quickly swept the world's universities as well as primary and secondary schools.

We want students to feel successful and excited to learn in our classrooms. A moment when all the hardship and struggle is worth it. You will fail. It is going to happen. You will have moments when your students are frustrated with the design process. You will have class periods that tank. However, failure is part of the process for innovative teachers. Each mistake is simply another iteration on the journey toward success.

Trish Roffey emphasized that only constant innovation can adapt to the ever-changing world and, through the theory of Design Thinking, she proactively explores the forms and directions of future learning so as to cultivate well-developed students becoming positive citizens of the future. Through 18 years of practice, CIEO has been a leader in innovation and works to put ideal education concepts into practice, allowing children to grow naturally and independently.  We combining this with positive elements of Chinese culture to explore the world with an open mind and vision.

We have the opportunity to make sure that our learning culture allows for projects that are based on the student’s passions, ideas, and needs. We can rid our classrooms of dumpster projects that were recipes handed to them to repeat and not create. We can allow for authentic demonstrations of understanding. The paper “get it done” then throw it out does not value the learning experience. We can use the creativity as a tool for students to demonstrate what they know. 

One thing is for sure though. We need to stop being the last industry to question “if” we should have technology. These innovations were possible because we did not rely upon paper alone.

Very soon students of CIS will work on their own design thinking within our IDEA Lab Makerspace. What does this mean? Students will begin to have computational thinking embedded within their daily curriculum. We will be coding, building, tinkering, using robotics and recycled materials to problem solve real life problems. Ms. Guzzo will be working with all teachers, exploring the curriculum and as a team decide how the IDEA Lab can bring that real-life component within the classrooms.

CIS has invested in the latest technology for our students to work and explore with. Our goal is to look at the process as the children design, not just the finished product at the end. All students from Pre-K to grade 12 will work within the IDEA Lab, building on constructivism and design thinking. Understanding that through our mistakes and failed attempts to make something work, that is where the real learning takes place.
