Dietterich教授将讨论人工智能（AI）技术在我们生活中日益重要的作用。今天人工智能面临的核心问题是“我们怎样才能确信基于AI的系统能够正常运行，并且我们会对结果感到满意？”他将回顾人工智能软件的独特方面，这些方面使其难以确保正确的行为，特别是对于涉及在高风险情况下的道德决策的应用程序。此外，他还将举例说明人工智能系统在计算机系统和人类反应中都产生了意想不到的行为。最后他将讨论当前的研究如何使AI系统更加有活力和正确。
Thomas Dietterich博士是俄勒冈州立大学计算机科学系杰出教授（荣誉）。他是机器学习的先驱，发表了200多篇科学论文。他是人工智能促进协会（AAAI）和国际机器学习协会的前任主席。他目前作为短期富布赖特专家访问清华大学。
Professor Dietterich will discuss the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in our lives. The central question facing AI today is “How can we be confident that AI-based systems will behave correctly and that we will be happy with the results?” He will review the unique aspects of AI software that make it difficult to ensure correct behavior, particularly for applications that involve ethical decision making in high-risk situations. In addition, he will give examples of AI systems that produced unexpected behaviors in both the computer systems and in human responses. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of ways that current research is trying to make AI systems more robust and more correct.
Dr. Thomas Dietterich is a Distinguished Professor (Emeritus) in Computer Science at Oregon State University. He was an early pioneer in machine learning and has published more than 200 scientific papers. He is former President of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) and of the International Machine Learning Society. He is visiting Tsinghua University under the Fulbright Specialist Program.
This program will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation.
