The Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) at London College of Fashion (LCF) and Kering, the world leader in apparel and accessories, have announced a five-year partnership to support sustainable practices and innovation in the fashion industry. Engaging LCF students, as well as designers, teaching staff, researchers and industry experts, the partnership will play a key role as an incubator for new ways of thinking about sustainable fashion.

Kering and LCF share the belief that sustainability is instrumental to the fashion industry’s evolution. Both are also committed to nurturing young talents to fuel today’s fast-growing fashion industry.

We have just heard that two students from MA Fashion Futures have been selected as finalists for this project.

Overall 6 finalists have been selected and will present their innovative ideas around sustainability to Stella McCartney and McQueen at the end of June 2015.

The Kering Award will be granted to two students for excellence in the areas of fashion design and technology, fashion management and science, and fashion media and communication. There will be two prizes of €10,000 and placements within the Kering brands for the winning students.

“Fashion offers us the opportunity to create, celebrate and

communicate on a personal and collective cale, the means to live well without compromising our future and our fellows. This masters’ programme is a vital way to enrich the thinking and actions of our discipline, our students, our industry and those

who interact with us.”

MA Fashion Futures offers a space for exploration of fashion practice and related theoretical perspectives, investigated and developed in parallel with a deep understanding of sustainability: the meta narrative of our times.

The course traverses a unique blend of academic and design skills to reflect new ideas, methods of expression and technologies for fashion in the context of its artistic, business, philosophical and other domains. Students have the opportunity to examine systems and notions of fashion using economic, social, cultural and environmental criteria to critically inform fashion practice and the development of personal philosophies for design.

MA Fashion Futures Course Aims

• To examine the existing paradigms in fashion and use scenario building to explore new fashion thinking.

• To explore personal theoretical perspectives, emerging technologies and methodologies to develop ambitious and intellectually informed practice.

• To develop new competencies supporting creative, relevant and adventurous materiality and writing.

• To develop independence, pro-activity and risk-taking.

• To support critical thinking and writing practices developed in parallel with making to communicate fashion futures.
