前面两期Richard老师向大家介绍了因果连词和并列连词。没有掌握好的同学们可以直接回复“连词”来复习一下。

今天Richard老师带领大家来看一看转折连词。这类词通常起的是修正和限制（Modifications andRestrictions）的作用。简单说，就是如何处理“但是”的问题。同学们在写到but的时候，是不是常常会感觉，见多了眼晕，想换个花样却有心无力呢？来看看能不能从下面两个例子得到一些启发：

1. Using the formulais widely applied for solving quadratic equations.

公式法可以广泛用于求解二次方程。

2. For quadraticequations with a ‘good form’, completing the square is preferred.

对某些形式整齐的二次方程，应优先使用配平方法。

• alternatively（直接转折）

When solving generalquadratic equations, using the formula can be applied. Alternatively, if quadratic equations have a ‘good form’,completing the square is preferred.

• although （比alternatively更强调配平方法）

Although using the formula is widely applied for solvingquadratic equations, completing the square is preferred when equations have a‘good form’.

• though （Though比although弱，且多用于句中，而不是句首。此例子中though可被although替代，以更强调配平方法）

Using the formula iswidely applied for solving quadratic equations, though completing the square is preferred when equations have a‘good form’.

• but （与though类似）

If quadraticequations have general forms, using the formula can be applied, but if they have a ‘good form’,completing the square is preferred.

• whereas （常见但不被经常使用）

Using the formula isapplied for solving general quadratic equations, whereas completing the square is preferred for solving equationswith a ‘good form’.

• by contrast（使用转折词组的首选）

Using the formula iswidely applied for solving quadratic equations. By contrast, for quadratic equations with a ‘good form’, completingthe square is preferred.
