So let’s talk a bit more about the importance of developing the entrepreneurship. We have come from an age where we have large industries, where the workers came together and they did the same thing over and over, working on the assembly line. More and more today, our factories have machines that can do that—the group routines that can be executed repetitively over and over again. We, human beings don’t do that anymore;our machines can do that instead. So our schools can no longer be training students to all be alike, to think alike. Our schools now need to train our students to give expression to their uniqueness, to their passions, to what they love and how to solve problems, and that is really what the entrepreneuris.
我还想谈谈培养学生的企业家精神的重要性。我们现在所在的社会已经不像从前，有着大型工厂，工人们每天过着在生产线上重复工作的生活。而现在，工厂里有机器来做这些事，我们就不需要再继续做这些重复的工作了。所以我们的学校也不能再按照原来的方式机械性地培养他们。我们要让学生能表现他们的特质，他们的激情，教会他们如果去解决问题，而这样的人才是真正的企业家。
In helping our students learn to be morecreative into real world, and give expression to who they are to their unique talents,it is important that we don’t just help our students do well on tests, and make As. We’ve gotten away from the emphasis on just preparing high school studentsto be good test takers. And this is also important in terms of preparingstudents for universities.
为了让学生更有创造力，能更充分地展现他们独特的才能，我们不能只是帮助学生在考试上取得好成绩，得到A。我们所强调的已经不只是让高中学生在考试中获取高分。培养他们独特的才能和创造力才能更好地为他们升入大学做准备。
American universities are very sensitive to this. They want to be preparing students to be successful in work world. They don’t want to prepare students who are just good at taking tests in the universities.So, a high school student might have perfect scores on tests, they might have nothing but straight As on their transcripts. That’s all they can show. They won’t be very qualified for the more selective American universities.
美国大学对这一点也特别重视。他们不仅想要学生能在大学考试里取得好成绩，更希望学生能在未来的工作中也取得成功。所以说，一个有着优异考试成绩的高中生，他可能有着全A的成绩单，而这也就是他所能展示的全部。对于那些挑剔的美国大学来说，这些远远不够。
American universities would like to see from high school students, they want to see the demonstrations of what they know and how they apply what they know. They want to see the demonstrations of how that student has impacted his community, how that the student has expressed himself creatively, how that student is unique and different from other students.They want to a student who can go into a college classroom and express theirideas with his classmates, with his colleagues, and with his professors, who can add value to the learning experience of the other students, and who will beopen to listening to ideas from others. If they come to a classroom, they are just quiet and they want to take in information. That is inadequate in terms ofthe American education.
美国大学希望从这些高中生身上看到的是他们学到了些什么，他们如何应用所学知识，他们为社区做了些什么，他们如何创造性地展现自己，以及他们到底特殊在哪里。他们希望学生能在大学课堂与同学、教授交流想法，能给其他同学的学习带来更多的价值，同时也能悉心听取其他同学的想法与建议。如果他们来到教室知识在那儿安静地坐着听课，这个在美国教育里是远远不够的。
So, the way we help our students build their portfolios is we get them involved in a variety of activities, not just their core academic classes. We get them involved into the speech and debate.We get them involved in activities such as Model United Nations. We get them involved with the Math teams, the Chess teams. We get them involved in doing broadcast videos, doing podcast, being on Robotic teams, and being involved insports and outdoor activities, and the involvement in service to their communities.
为了帮助我们的学生全面发展，我们会让他们不单关注他们的学业，还要参与一系列活动，比方说演讲与辩论、模拟联合国，让他们加入数学社、围棋社，让他们动手制作视频、音频，制作机器人，参与课外体育活动还有社区活动等。
So, in preparing your students for American universities, if that is what your attention is for your students-- to try to get your child into American universities, there are things we can do together, here in the Wasatch Academy and Sizhong Prep School, for the entrance and success in American universities. Courses can be designed to help prepare them; counselors can be provided to help guide them, and teachers can be presented to them who are adept at helping them develop 21stcentury skills.

One of the things that Americadoes well is university education. An international counselor of educators just rated universities around the world, and the top 100 universities in the worlds, 92 were the American universities. So, let’s say your son or daughter was accepted into the 92nd rank of the American universities, you could say honestly that my child goes to the top 100 universities in the world.
说起美国的大学，美国也有成百上千所大学，不是只有哈佛、耶鲁那几所名校，美国还有很多特别出色的大学。美国在大学教育上做得特别出色。有一个国际教育家刚对全球大学进行了排名，全球排名前100的大学里有92个都是来自美国的。如果您的孩子被美国排名第92的大学录取了，您完全可以说您的孩子进了世界前100名的大学。
