德国由于身处欧洲大陆之中心，饮食文化与内陆地区之物产分布息息相关。整体上德国较为爱好肉类。其中德国人尤其爱吃猪肉，大部分有名的德国菜都是猪肉制品，例如德国香肠，德国猪脚，所以德国特色的美食一直就为人们所津津乐道。在位于南澳州首府的阿德莱德，驱车往东南方向行驶约半小时的路程，有个充满德国情调的小村落——德国村汉道夫（Hahndorf）。1839年，为逃避普鲁士宗教迫害的路德教徒不远万里来此定居，他们以船长的名字汉道夫为这座村庄命名。这座德国风情的小乡村以其独特的魅力吸引着世界各地的游客，小镇景色优美，建筑多元，设计、用色及屋内的摆设，都充满美感与创意，在这里度假，恍惚间总让人忘记自己仍旧身处在澳大利亚，仿佛已经到了豪迈的德国。这里街道两旁是历史悠久的建筑和百年悬铃树、榆树以及本土胶树。古董店、旧货店和小摆件商店门口排列着葡萄酒桶和色彩绚丽的鲜花。

在德国餐厅最常见的就是烤猪脚。在德国，一般会佐以葛缕子及大蒜一起浸泡或预先煮过，再烤到表皮苏脆，搭配芥末酱、辣椒一起上桌。烤制后的猪脚皮香肉厚，脆而不干的外皮最具嚼劲。
