Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer, the Director of Client and Business Development – Global will be responsible for ensuring that the Firm is maximizing team resources and skills in delivering the full spectrum of client and business development services across the EMEA and APAC regions.
Managing a geographically dispersed team of professionals, the Director of Client and Business Development – Global will help drive a firmwide business development culture. Working closely with the CMBDO, partners, and other BD professionals, including it’s counterpart in the US, the Director – Global will provide more structure and guidance around business development and help develop and drive initiatives that enhance revenues and strengthen client relationships.
Responsibilities and Duties
Working closely with partners and other lawyers, practice groups and the BD team, the Director of Client and Business Development – Global will assist with the creation and execution of BD strategies, plans and projects for the lawyers in Fragomen’s network of offices across EMEA and APAC. This includes identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and targets; facilitating cross-selling initiatives firmwide; closely following news and trends impacting our clients, industries and the immigration marketplace; and assisting lawyers and practice groups in analyzing, assessing and preparing for BD opportunities to elevate awareness of the firm within each local marketplace and support the business development needs of the lawyers in the offices the role supports.
The Director of Client and Business Development - Global is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s clients, attorneys, advisors and staff, efficient and effective departmental operations, and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Director of Client and Business Development – Global must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner that is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.
Focus Areas:
• Business Planning and Implementation: Work with CMBDO, regional BD professionals and partners to develop business plans that are consistent with the firm’s strategies and policies set by the Executive Committee. Help execute / and ensure implementation of the plans and share best practices. Monitor progress and evaluate effectiveness of progress on plans.
• Client Focus and Planning: Help build and sustain a client focus culture. Work with CMBDO, regional BD professionals and partners to create client target lists, strategies and plans for developing and growing client relationships. Develop a Client Focus Program with CMBDO. Assist in identifying new target clients and market opportunities to strengthen and expand the firm’s client base. Observe confidentiality of client and firm matters.
• Training:Work with CMBDO to roll out “Fragomen Fundamentals”, a business development training and educational program to provide the firm’s lawyers with the resources and skills they need to successfully develop new business in a collaborative, strategic way. Also, guide and coach BD professionals so that they are delivering top quality service to the lawyers.
• Events: As part of an overall BD strategy, identify and execute client educational programs; seminar and speaking opportunities; community involvement; and sponsorship opportunities in the local and regional legal/business communities .
• Client Mapping and Analyses : As part of an overall BD strategy, work with the Director of Marketing & Marketing Technology and others on that team on building out our CRM and mapping key client relationships. Oversee development and standardizations of client and market analyses, leveraging both internal research and external networks.
• Proposals/RFPs: As part of an overall BD strategy, work with Content Director and practice groups/lawyers to discuss and provide guidance on key client opportunities and provide content/input to the centralized Content team for developing responses to proposals, RFPs and directory and award submissions.
• Essential Knowledge, Skills And Competencies: Demonstrated success in driving and implementing BD strategies for growth and client development at other law firms or professional services firms. Significant international management experience required A collaborative and consultative style, as well as an ability to establish effective working relationships with partners, the Marketing & BD team and other colleagues across the firm. A high level of energy, enthusiasm and initiative. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and attention to detail. Strong work ethic; and poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload; juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines; work independently and as part of a team; and complete tasks efficiently.
• Educational Qualifications/Job Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree a plus. At least seven years’ experience in a business development/marketing-related field required. Previous experience in both EMEA and APAC regions strongly preferred. The ability to travel regularly across both the EMEA and APAC region is necessary. Experience in a professional services environment necessary, previous law firm experience preferred. Excellent written and oral (English) communication skills. Other languages (e.g., Spanish and Mandarin) not essential but viewed positively. Commitment to professional growth and development. Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of SalesForce, InterAction or other CRM preferred.
