I took this photo in a small village in of Brazil when we were filming our project Next: Blockchain. The lady on the right is called Hosi. Hosi’s team is trying to launch a bakery and cateriHi! I am Bianca Chen from OX3 TV Production. I am a financial journalist with more than ten years experience. OX3 TV Production majorly produces video content about business and technology for the global audience.

ng business. One thing they need is money, a very small amount of money. However getting a loan in Brazil is extremely difficult with interest rates sometimes topping one hundred percent. And Hosi is not alone. Everyday there are many people like her fighting with poverty and struggling to get opportunities. But Hosi is lucky. A lending company powered by blockchain came to her aid. Now she’s happily pursuing her dream. This story reminds me the problems of our world is facing and makes me wonder perhaps blockchain can offer the world an opportunity to solve some big issues by empowering ordinary individuals like Hosi by loosening the grips of monopolies and super powers and by redistributing wealth more evenly and fairly.

However that’s not the Blockchain most people know. When I mention Blockchain or bitcoin most of the people think about the volatile price,the criminal activities and the scandalous ICOs. These things did happen but that’s not the whole story.

As a financial journalist, I first heard about bitcoin in 2011. Since then I have been following the development of this technology and how people’s lives have been changed by this revolution. In last 9 years, this has grown from a geek community into a global phenomenon, with entrepreneurs, big companies and even governments trying to tap into the possibilities of this new technology. Also our understanding of innovation, finance and organization has been challenged, and I have witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly of my fellow man.I think now is the time to explore and review the human stories and the history of blockchain.To address people’s concerns, to discuss the possibilities and the risk that lie ahead and to document the significance of this technology to the world.

In the past year, I and my team went to a lot of countries visited over 60 prominent figures in blockchain industry and filmed hundreds of hours of footage. We focused on human stories and social impacts instead of technical terms and business news. We hope to finish our 8-episode docuseries with a two-hour movie length version in a depth and scale that have never been done before.

然而大部分人眼中的区块链并不是这样子，当我对人提起比特币、区块链，绝大多数人想的是起伏的币价、非法活动以及臭名昭著的ICO。这些确实存在，但却并不全面。作为一名财经记者，我2011年第一次听到比特币，从那以后，我就一直追踪这项技术的发展，追寻在这一场革新中改变了命运的人们。过去九年来，它从一个极客团体变成了全球现象。创业者、大企业，乃至政府也都在试图开拓这项新技术的可能性。同时，我们对创新、金融、组织机构的理解也受到了挑战，我也见证了身边好的坏的和丑陋的一面。如今，是时候探索回顾区块链的发展史和其中人们的故事，为大众答疑解惑，去探讨前方的可能性和风险，去记录这项科技对世界的意义。
