Asian Pacific American Heritage Month – Nam June Paik

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Nam June Paik immigrated to the United States in 1964 where he settled in New York City. Known as the “Father of Video Art,” Paik has used art to express his immigration experience in this piece titled Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii. The piece features the artist’s envisioning of what the the enormous scale of the nation that confronted the young Korean artist when he arrived. The different colors remind us that individual states still have distinct identities and cultures, even in today's information age.
