最近我遇到了很多国内学习临床医学的学生想到美国读书，当然不能直接申请临床又不想选择基础医学时，我就有了考虑是不是又更好就业的选择呢?相比一些新兴的医学领域，康复治疗在老龄化严重的社会上，会不会是一个能让人心神向往的热门话题。但随着社会的进步，如何满足生病的人的高质量的生活。如何满足他们的康复医疗服务需求是一个严峻和急迫的挑战。

　　美国的康复医生有了自己的专门称呼(Physiatrist)，我们常见为PT，物理治疗师。如果在美国学习康复医疗会经历有正规的4年医学院毕业后训练(1年实习+3年住院医)。医院还设立了康复医疗的亚专科训练(fellowship)，为那些愿意继续在疼痛管理，脊柱康复，儿童康复体育康复或大脑的损伤康复等领域继续深造的康复医生们提供额外的1-2年训练。

　　杂志数据表明，美国有9,164名是康复专科或亚专科医生，占全部医生的比例为1.1%;每35，089名美国人，有1名康复科医生。康复医生虽然比介入性心血管医生(3,255名)或血管外科医生(3,358名)多一些，但远远少于普通内科医生(114,083名),家庭全科医生(110，295名)和普通外科医生(21,254名)。

　　在美国康复医生数量不足的情况下，其多达20万的理疗师(physical therapists)缓解了患者需求。虽然不是医生但要获取理疗师执照也是很难的事。根据美国理疗师协会的信息，目前所有的美国理疗师的教育项目(共二百多个)都只提供学制三年的理疗博士学位(Doctor of Physical Therapy，DPT)，原有的理疗硕士项目不再继续。申请者还要通过各州的执照考试。

　　经过我给家长的介绍，全美遍布着数以万计的个体或联合康复医生或理疗师诊所，其中也包括一些中医诊所，推拿按摩等，和一些养老机构(nursing homes，adult centers)合作也提供康复服务。在美国五千家综合医院中，765家会设立康复科和康复病床。另外还有454家康复专科医院。

　　美国人口的进一步老龄化加剧了康复医疗服务的需求。展望美国康复医疗产业，这也是一个新兴的中国学生学习和就业的方向。

This combination of prerequisite courses is designed to offer applicants flexibility in acquiring the knowledge base necessary to succeed in our program and to reflect the diverse academic backgrounds of our prospective applicants. While we do not have a minimum GPA requirement, our average is 3.5. There are no set number of volunteer hours that you need to complete in order to be accepted into the program. However, it is important that you have been exposed to a variety of OT practice areas. These experiences should be included in your resume and personal statement.

　　Science prerequisites must have been completed within the previous ten years.

　　整体来说，无论名校也好，无论语言要求高低，先修课程多少都一定要提前准备，大家看到学制和课程的对接还是真的非常复杂的，所以一定要系统的准备。

　　还有学生说如果不能在美国就业怎么办，那么我们再想一想，中国有近一亿的残障人口，65岁老年人也超过了一点四亿。那么回国后的就业环境也非常乐观，我认为在康复医生，物理治疗，职业理疗师的教育和培养，在康复医院和机构设置，在医保给付政策，在新观念和新技术应用等方面，或许可以借鉴美国的教育方式和走向进一步学习。
