There has been a recent story gaining attention on Chinese social media suggesting that certain top UK universities will no longer be accepting Chinese students.
We would like to confirm that the information given in the post was incorrect, the University of Glasgow will continue to welcome applications from well qualified Chinese students and we very much appreciate the great contribution our Chinese students make to the university. In 1886 our first Chinese student Hok Tang Chain from Fuzhou came to the University to study Natural Philosophy. Since then we have welcomed an increasing numbers of Chinese students every year and will continue to do so in the future. We are proud of the international atmosphere on campus created by our Chinese students and other international students from over 140 different countries around the world.
Our world-leading reputation and the strength of UK higher education means the popularity of our degrees is continually increasing. Our entry policy for Chinese students has not changed but our entry requirements are reviewed annually and will reflect the increased competitiveness of certain programmes. The current entry requirements can be found at our official website.
Those students who don’t meet the academic requirements for direct entry may still be able to join the university by applying for a foundation or pre-masters course at Glasgow International College.

We look forward to welcoming many more future world changing Chinese students to the University of Glasgow.
