This is a busy and important role, working alongside the Consul General’s Executive Assistant, to manage the Deputy Consul General’s office.  You will oversee his schedule and events programme, acting as a strategic coordinator for his work across the Consulate and with external stakeholders such as the British Council, China Britain Business Council and British Chamber of Commerce. You will manage a diverse workload, delivering daily Consulate business; providing event management of official entertainment and public diplomacy activities; running DCG’s budget for travel and entertainment and processing claims for section heads who report to DCG. Coordinating DCG’s travel and programme, there will be opportunities to accompany to key meetings and visits, providing interpretation, drafting routine communications and driving follow-up as necessary.  The job holder provides occasional cover and support to the Consul General and the Regional Outreach Team.

You will be responsible for the delivery of high quality economic analysis. This will involve building a strong network of high quality contacts, taking responsibility on high impact visitor programmes and the line management of the team Economic Assistant. You will need to be highly attuned to current affairs, have a strong grasp of economic theory, and excellent interpersonal skills. You must be comfortable delivering at pace and taking responsibility. Lastly, and by no means least, you will be able to independently undertake long term research projects with high quality English language outputs.

- Deliver high quality economic analysis in line with the overall priorities of the China network.

- Maintain and expand a large and high quality network of contacts through local government, UK and Chinese business, academic and think tanks and other thought leaders.

- Support bilateral projects, including pushing forward potential deliverables for the annual Economic and Financial Dialogue between China and the UK.

- Stay on top of recent economic news and local affairs.

- Play a crucial role, often leading, programme delivery of key economic visitors.
