International Criminology

课程简介

This course is designed to introduce students to current issues in international criminology. Students will be exposed to recent research and policy debates that are relevant in both Europe and North America. The course will explore the following ten topics: 1) Cross-national patterns of crime and violence; 2) The mafia and the growth of international organized crime; 3) Immigration, crime and crime control; 4) Youth radicalization, street gangs and “homegrown” terrorism; 5) Human trafficking; 6) Drug prohibition and violence; 7) The causes and consequences of hate crime; 8) Corporate crime within the international economy; 9) The globalization of policing; and 10) International trends in crime prevention and punishment. The teaching format will consist of formal lectures, seminar discussions, organized debates and field trips.

Anicient Art & Architecture: Italy

课程简介

This interdisciplinary course introduces students to the relationship between art and history and the formation of society, culture and identity in ancient Italy. Surveying the historical development of the Etruscans and Romans from the eighth century BCE to the fifth century CE, students will examine a wide range of topics (e.g. religion, war and conquest, structures of government, daily life, etc.) through the lens of visual and material culture. Incorporating tours of archaeological sites, historical monuments and museums in Tuscany (e.g. Chiusi, Fiesole, Florence) and Lazio (e.g. Tarquinia, Cerveteri, and Rome), the course offers students an unparalleled opportunity to contextualize class lectures and textbook readings with first-hand archaeological discovery Not eligible for CR/NCR option.

One FAH half course in ancient art, architecture, and archaeology

课程简介

A course specifically designed for students who wish to take Italian as a breadth requirement. Emphasis will be given to basic aspects of communication in a functional context. This course cannot be used towards any Minor, Major or Specialist program in Italian. Students may use this first year introductory level course to satisfy their breadth requirement while enjoying a wonderful learning experience abroad, the one that only language and culture immersion can provide.

Modern Italian Culture

课程简介

Analysis of selected philosophical, artistic, musical and literary works which range from the end of the Renaissance to the present. The main topics of discussion include the Baroque, Romanticism, Italian Unification, Theatre, Opera, Futurism, Fascism, Neorealism, Regionalism and Industrial Growth. Field trips are included. The course is taught in English and is open to students from other disciplines. Students who wish to obtain credit in ITA359Y0 (instead of ITA358Y0) will be required to do course readings in Italian.
