China is a key player globally in the ecommerce sector. Starting from a low base a decade ago, people are increasingly willing to buy clothes, electronics, books and food from websites. For Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs), selling online is a good way to access China's markets. Third party platforms in particular will give companies a relatively cheap mode of promoting their goods to a vast audience while avoiding many of the complications of Internet Content Provider (ICP) licensing. Third party logistics providers are also growing with increasing network coverage and will allow FIE goods to reach more and more Chinese cities. Several Chinese e-commerce giants have emerged in recent years. Among them are Taobao and Taobao Mall (Tmall). This webinar highlights the various methods and business models in which a company can start selling online in China, together with some practical tips on understanding how to market to end consumers in China.
