HAKA原本是古代毛利族在与敌作战前表演的舞蹈，目的在于威慑对手，扰乱军心，并为自己的团队鼓舞士气。现在已经被新西兰运动队广泛地运用到了运动场上。

新西兰橄榄球队的表演的HAKA最为著名。由于他们每次比赛的时候都一袭黑衣亮相，所以又被称为All Blacks。

HAKA并不只有一种表演形式，另外在舞蹈完结之时，舞者为把舌头伸长，意思是扮演敌人被杀后，头颅被挂在长竿上的模样。
