The Department of Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a Part-time Lecturer in Chinese Translation and Interpreting to cover maternity leave. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering postgraduate modules in translation with some possible contribution to interpreting in the next academic year 2016/17 on our MA Chinese TI and Diploma in Chinese TI.

The successful candidate will have a background and experience in the translation and interpreting area, with special focus on Chinese with the ability to deliver or contribute to modules focused on Written Translation; Technologies of Translation and Principles in Translation and Interpreting.

The main focus of the post is in Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation.

The role may also involve some contribution to joint teaching in subtitling according to the expertise of applicants. Candidates may also be required to contribute to supervision of translation MA projects.

The post is directed at teaching and scholarship rather than research, but a strong research background will be essential with the department’s goal to deliver research-led teaching.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent postgraduate Translation qualification, and should be able to deliver modules at postgraduate level, as well as contribute to administration and management of the department.

The contract is a 0.7fte fixed term maternity cover for 25.2 hours per week commencing on 3rd January 2017 until 30th September 2017.
