The precious and base metals businesses are the core of ICBC Standard Bank’s commodity financing and trading franchise. We are a significant trader of physical metals from offices in London, Singapore, Shanghai and New York, and offer clients a range structured financing, trading and risk management solutions.

This will be a front office role reporting to the Head of Precious Metals Sales in London but the strategist will need to develop strong relationships with sales and trading staff in multiple locations. A significant amount of international travel will be required.

·The primary responsibility of the Metals Strategist will be to ensure that the commodities business, the bank’s shareholders and the group’s clients receive market-leading analysis and commentary on precious metals.

·Analysis will be delivered via a mix of quarterly reviews, thematic reports, short-commentary, opinion pieces, chart packs, presentations and forecasts.

·The latter will include supply, demand and price forecasting for clients over the short- to medium-term.

·The Metals Strategist will act to promote the precious metals business to active and prospective clients at one-on-one meetings, industry events, via conference calls, etc.

·In addition to supporting the metals traders and sales people, the Metals Strategist will also contribute to the work of the commodities structured finance team, and support the private side deal teams on an as-needed basis.

·The Metals Strategist will also manage the output of an external base metals analyst, and produce regular notes and forecasts (both macro-economic and sector specific) pertinent to the wider commodities sales and trading teams

·Extensive hands on experience of commodity market analysis, preferably in a regulated financial institution

·Candidates with a history of FX, fixed income or macro-economic research may be suitable

·Experience in the construction of commodity supply and demand models and/or macro-economic forecasting

·Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

·The ability to filter, process, communicate and present complex information in a clear persuasive manner

·Must be comfortable working in a pressured work environment with frequent deadlines

·Ability to prioritise commitments, self-motivated, and able to deal with a degree of ambiguity

·Flexible approach needed to respond to multiple stakeholders and clients, and a role that will evolve over time with the commodities business

·Confidence to talk to senior managers and executives from a diverse range of entities including mining companies, multinational corporations, financial institutions, asset managers and government and official sector counterparties

·Chinese language skills would be an advantage
