We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual for the post of International Engagement Officer to support the Senior Engagement Officer in developing and delivering, on a regional basis, a suite of initiatives aimed at engaging enquirers and offer-holders through the decision-making process, and positively influence their decision to study at the University of Dundee. This engagement will take the form of relationship building, giving guidance and information about the opportunities and experience of studying at the University of Dundee. Working closely with other teams in External Relations, the post holder will use a variety of media (including but not limited to online content, email communication, hard-copy/electronic documentation, and social media on a global and regional basis), peer-to-peer phone calls using Student Ambassadors, and on-campus activities / events.

Based in Dundee, the post holder will have regional responsibility for engagement with prospective students and their families from East Asia (China and Hong Kong in particular), but will naturally engage with those from other regions as appropriate. Chinese language skills (both speaking and written) are essential, as is fluency in spoken and written English.

You will be a key point of contact for prospective international foundation, undergraduate and/or postgraduate students (enquirers and applicants), and as such will be expected to develop a wide knowledge of our campus, the University and the city of Dundee. Having a strong understanding of the key decision-making factors which influence international students when deciding to study in the UK, as well as an appreciation of the practicalities involved in moving across the world to study, will be extremely important.

Education

·Educated to degree level or with relevant work experience

·Fluency in written and spoken English, plus Mandarin or Cantonese

·Relevant professional qualifications and/or proven vocational / sectoral experience

·Postgraduate qualification

·Marketing qualification

Work Experience

·Experience in a student recruitment or a sales / marketing role, with evidence of meeting and exceeding objectives and targets

·Experience of handling customer enquiries via various channels in a professional manner

·Highly developed understanding of the needs of enquirers and applicants from different countries (China and Hong Kong in particular) and how to respond to enquiries appropriately

·Experience of preparing and delivering training

·Experience of interpreting and compiling statistical reports

·Previous international student recruitment experience within the University sector

·Knowledge of the admissions / recruitment process in Higher Education and issues relating to international student recruitment in the UK

·Experience of using student admissions systems (e.g. SITS) and ability to understand the various stages applicants move through

·Knowledge of using social media and messaging applications as a communication tool in a business context

·Experience of extracting information from databases/spreadsheets

Personal Qualities and abilities

·Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills in English and Mandarin/Cantonese, and the ability to communicate clearly with a range of audiences utilising cultural sensitivity and diplomacy

·Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate and influence

·Good working knowledge of standard PC software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and a willingness to learn new IT systems

·Ability to work under pressure and prioritise to meet deadlines whilst maintaining high standards

·Flexibility and adaptability in approach to work. Able to work with minimal supervision as part of a team and independently

·A pleasant and friendly manner

·Excellent relationship building skills

·Passion and enthusiasm for delivering a high standard of customer service

·Excellent time management, organisational and planning skills

·Inventiveness, creativity and a capacity to identify new opportunities

·Demonstrable interest in admissions to Higher Education
