2018.5.12 Academic Task 2 Sample Essay

Some people think that a huge amount of time and money is spent on the protection of wild animals, and this could be better spent on human population. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Wildlife protection is of pivotal importance in the modern era. Some individuals believe that several hours and funds are spent on protection of wild animals, and these could be better spent on human population. I completely disagree with this viewpoint as protecting wild animals is human’s innate duty to protect human life and the planet.

Wildlife maintains the planet and without wild animals the natural order of the environment would be destroyed. If wild animals are not protected, they may face extinction, resulting in environmental imbalance which may result in harm to nature as well as humans and their daily lives. For example, in African regions, the constant hunting of pangolins resulted in an imbalance between land and air creatures that caused several predators to attack the African tribes’ livestock and even young children.

Moreover, human population is dependent on the existence of wild animals as wild animals constitute an essential part of the planets ecological order and forests, which supplies humans with resources such as food, water, wood and minerals. Without protection, these wild animals may face extinction or endangerment resulting in disruption of resources. For example, several endemic species of predators such as tigers in India have resulted in an increase in the number of herbivores that has deteriorated the conditions of natural forests as green plants are overconsumed. This has led to many indigenous people’s failure in gathering food and wood for their consumption on day-to-day basis, and thus they face a survival issue.

As a result, I totally disagree with the belief that the huge amount of money and time spent on wildlife protection could be better spent on human population as safeguarding wild animals is fundamental for conserving nature and human life.
