The problem begins with the alphabet itself. Building a spelling system for English using letters that come from Latin-despite the two languages not sharing exactly the same set of sounds-is like building a playroom using an IKEA office set.
Modern buildings have to achieve certain performance requirements, at least to satisfy those of building codes, to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable environment. However, these conditioned environments demand resources in energy and materials, which are both limited in supply, to build and operate.
Unlike the United Kingdom, which has taken a relatively restrictive approach to the possession of arms, the United States has taken a more lenient approach. In the United States, three models have evolved regarding the interpretation of the meaning of the right to bear and keep arms as delineated in the Second Amendment.

Columbus: When Christopher Columbus arrived at Hispaniola during his firsttransatlantic voyage in the year A.D. 1492. the island had already beenselected by Native Americans for about 5,000 years. The occupants in Columbus’stime were a group of Arawak Indians called Tainos who lived by farming, wereorganized into five chiefdoms, and numbered around half a million (theestimates range from 100,000 to 2,000,000). Columbus initially found thempeaceful and friendly, until he and his Spaniards began mistreating them.
Unfortunately for the Tainos, they had gold, which the Spanish coveted butdidn’t want to go to the work of mining themselves. Hence, the conquerors dividedup the island and its Indian population among individual Spaniards, who put theIndians to work as virtual Slaves, accidentally infected them with Eurasiandiseases, and murdered them. By the year 1519, 27 years after Columbus’sarrival, that original population of half a million had been reduced to about11,000, most of whom died that year of smallpox to bring the population down to3,000 and those survivors gradually died out or became assimilated within thenext few decades. That forced the Spaniards to look elsewhere for slave labors.
经典牛吃草: The co-evolutionary relationship between cows and grass is one of nature'sunderappreciated wonders; it also happens to be the key to understanding justabout everything about modern meat. For the grasses, which have evolved towithstand the grazing of ruminants, the cow maintains and expands their habitatby preventing trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold and hogging thesunlight; the animal also spreads grass seed, plants it with his hooves, andthen fertilizes it with his manure. In exchange for these services the grassesoffer ruminants a plentiful and exclusive supply of lunch. For cows (likesheep, bison, and other ruminants) have evolved the special ability to convertgrass—which single-stomached creatures like us can't digest—into high-qualityprotein. They can do this because they possess what is surely the most highlyevolved digestive organ in nature: the rumen. About the size of a medicineball, the organ is essentially a forty-five-gallon fermentation tank in which aresident population of bacteria dines on grass.
