欢迎您于2019年1月5日星期六前来北京美国中心，参加由美国驻华大使馆地区英语项目办公室（Regional English Language Office）举办的第三十一届英语教学研讨会！此活动免费面向各学段英语教师及教研人员。 

本次活动由2位目前在中国高校执教的美国外语/二语教学领域的英语学者（English Language Fellow）为大家带来4场时长各75分钟的工作坊。活动限100人，实名注册，报满即止。参加活动时请务必携带有效身份证件。

9:00-9:15: Opening Remarks

9:15-10:30: Integrating Listening into the Reading Curriculum – Sarah Warfield

Reading proficiency in a second language (L2) improves when learners are encouraged to listen to audio while they read. Not only does this practice affect reading speed, it also raises individual learners’ phonetic awareness of the target language. This workshop will present different ideas on how to incorporate listening activities into a reading class. Teachers will learn about the benefits of such practices, be introduced to free resources available for improving reading through listening, and design tasks they can use in their own classrooms.    

10:45-12:00: Oral Production in the EFL Setting: a variety of activities – Lorraine Billo 

English as Foreign Language (EFL) poses many problems for meaningful language usage both inside outside the classroom.  How can this issue be addressed, and what do teachers and students need to do, to improve speaking scores in the EFL setting?  Instructors need to develop creative, interactive, and comprehensible activities and text, which may cultivate students’ participation. In this workshop we will look at several activities to promote speech in the ELF setting which will include discussion, brainstorming, retelling, story ending, reporting, picture narrating and picture describing.

13:30-14:45: Best Practices for Peer Review – Sarah Warfield

Peer review is an effective way to facilitate the editing process among your academic students. Effectively teaching your students how to conduct peer reviews can guarantee higher student success because students are taught how to critically think about their writing and editing skills. This interactive workshop will illustrate best practices for peer review including creating and applying rubrics, tips for talking to students about peer review, how to work in both pairs and groups, and practical ways to informally assess student progress.

15:00-16:15 Content Based Instruction in the ELL Setting:  a simple task – Lorraine Billo

Content based instruction is the preferred method of teaching in the ELL setting, as of late.  Content based instruction in the ELL setting,   means using the “standard academic curriculum”, and a variety of ELL standards, objectives, and methods to further understanding of complex material.   Language learning strategies are used to further English language acquisition in reading, writing speaking, listening, vocabulary and grammar.    This workshop will focus on ELL strategies which can be used in each content area, being Science, Social Studies, Math, and Literature/Language Arts, to promote student understanding of the complexities of “Academic English”.
