Every year, over 300 million tons of plastic are produced, and at least 8 million tons end up in our oceans every year. The majority of marine plastics come from land-based sources, including urban and storm runoff, sewer overflows, beach visitors, industrial and construction activities, and illegal dumping.
Plastic pollution has a significant social, economic and ecological impact. The most visible impacts are the ingestion, suffocation and entanglement of marine species. However, their impacts are also on human health, food safety and coastal tourism as well as contribute to climate change.
The good news is that global concern and awareness are increasing. Addressing these problems require improved policies, practical solutions and scientific innovations. But everyone could certainly do his or her part.
Join us on December 19th, 2018 to learn the significant impact of marine plastics and how to do our part to improve our environment.
This program will be in Chinese.
